Regional small businesses located more than 25km from a substation can wave goodbye to electricity headworks charges and say hello to refunds.
Goodbye to Headworks Charges for Small Business
Rebate Table graphic
From 1 July 2010 businesses which need a new or expanded electricity supply are entitled to have their Distribution Headworks costs totally subsidised.
Charges paid since the scheme was introduced in 2007 will be refunded.

The subsidy will be capped at $1million for each connection, with applications greater than this amount dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Individual connection charges will still apply.

The waiving of the headworks charges for small business will provide a morale boost and incentive to regional communities.

When I was Shadow Minister for the Mid West and Wheatbelt I wrote to each of the Shires in my region asking for a wish-list if we won government.

Headworks costs were a common concern, and I am delighted that we have been able to have these small business costs abolished and provide a refund windfall.

The table below shows typical headworks costs when the scheme was introduce by the Labor Government in 2007.
