The tenth anniversary of the Moora Floods was commemorated in 2009 and brought back some vivid memories.
In March 1999, the banks of the Moore River broke when ex-Tropical Cyclone Elaine hammered the district.
Around 1000 people had to be evacuated, and as Deputy Shire President at the time, the coordination fell to me and the Shire President.
Two months later, just as the community was recovering, more heavy rain cause another flood in the town.
As if that was not enough, in August a third downpour flooded six houses.
I am quietly pleased that the WA Local Government Association recognised my achievements with a Distinguished Service Award for Services to the Community.
