New home for old machinery
Thanks to a Lotterywest grant of $44,105, a growing collection of historic farming machinery and motors will have a new home in Northampton.

In 2007 The Northampton Motors & Machinery Restoration Group Inc (formerly part of the local Historical Society) was offered a large shed in Geraldton. This was dismantled and carted to Northampton, and stored until late 2008 when they commenced reconstruction on a block donated by the Shire.

Chairman Bob Beresford (pictured receiving the Lotterywest cheque with Group secretary Di Hulme), is the owner/builder of the shed, and has ben the driving force in organising and coordinating construction.

The Group took an innovative interest in share-farming to help get the project started.

In 2007 they were granted use of 255h of arable land south of Northampton which they leased to a neighbouring farmer to crop. The proceeds from their share of the resulting wheat crop enabled them to finance fencing, and to commence construction of the shed.

The Lotterywest grant will enable them to complete the building, which will be open to the public.

For avid machinery buffs, the machine pictured on the Issues home page shows Bob Taylor in the driver’s seat of a restored 1904 harvester.

Western Australia is the only State in Australia where the profits from the games are returned directly back to community groups in the form of grants. Since its establishment in 1933 Lotterywest has provided over $2 billion to the WA community.
