A $15.4m new school precinct will be constructed in Merredin for students from kindergarten to year twelve.

Agricultural Region MLC Brian Ellis, who chairs the Rural and Remote Education Advisory Committee, said the project is the single biggest investment in education in Merredin in 100 years.

The precinct will replace North Merredin and South Merredin primary schools, and Merredin Senior High School.

It will be known as the ‘Merredin K-12 One School, One Community’ project.

New primary buildings will be built next to the secondary buildings on Woolgar Avenue, and the
secondary facilities will be upgraded and refurbished.

Parents are playing a major role in the development of the new school precinct through the Merredin Schools Amalgamation Committee.

Construction on the project is expected to begin in mid-2011 for completion during 2012.
