Rural Men’s Health Program
A successful five-year Wheatbelt service providing support and counseling for men will be expanded state-wide.

A $2.78million funding allocation over three years will be used for programs tailored to specific community needs rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach.

It will raise awareness of issues such as prostate cancer, stroke and heart attack prevention, and mental health matters including suicide prevention. Suicide rates among male farm owners and managers are around twice the rate of the national average.

Around a quarter of all males over the age of 15 years live in regional areas, and support for them and their families in times of economic and climatic change will also be a priority.

The program is run by the Department of Agriculture and Food and will complement existing country health services and other allied services.
