Water tanks for a thirsty country
Nearly 50 shires across Western Australia applied to install water tanks under the State Government's dry season assistance measures.
Two 45,000 litre tanks were installed at Kukerin following an application by the Shire of Dumbleyung as part of the
$5million Dry Season Assistance Package which will assist up to 100 drought-affected shires.
An important part of the assistance package is $1million for the installation of high-volume water tanks at standpipes to assist fire response and water carting.
These are a long-term investment in infrastructure to help support local communities through future dry seasons.
Other measures include community service grants ($2million), social support grants for counselling services ($1million), small business assistance ($500,000) and rural financial counselling ($200,000).
